Finished 2nd in the 3500 GTD Rebuy for $662.58 3.11.13

Much needed win after the brutal beating my bankroll took.

Tomorrow is officially the start of my Spring Break, an entire week to focus on my game, hit the gym, soak in some sun and have some fun! With that, I am very glad to say I took 2nd place tonight in the $3500 GTD Rebuy on Black Chip Poker! I felt I should have had first but oh well. It was a VERY tough game, when we were down to like 50 people before the money I was one of the few in last place, but I focused and honed in on wanting to win. I told myself, “I at least want the top 3”, and then when I made it there I had the smallest chip stack (about 190k, vs 700k, vs 400k, roughly). Eventually me and the person in 2nd place beat down the chip leader and it was a dead heat, then the former chip leader crippled the 2nd place guy and I took him out. It was me and the chip leader about even in chips and then I picked up pocket 3s and…:

Ya…the villain VP was literally about 50+ going into the final table when we were 9 handed. I could have played this a lot differently but I took an aggressive chance by flipping for stacks, he got the better end of the deal but I’m still happy. This win was MUCH needed after the brutal beatings my bankroll has taken lately. Anyhow, that’s all for now. I still have to upload my hand histories into a video to post on youtube, and there are still tons of videos I plan on checking out over at tournament poker edge to help my game this week.  I am very hopeful for this free week to focus on improvement.

The mOSS Report….

Posted: February 26, 2013 in Bankroll Management, MTT, Poker, Poker Goals

mOSS Report

This picture pretty much sums up how the mOSS Events went for me…I would love to say I came out profitable, that it was a success but that’s not how it went down. I can say however, that I learned where my weaknesses lie in my poker game and you better believe I will do my damnest to fix those issues during 2013.

I played a total of 36 of the 100 events, showing in the red for -$613.58 if my math is correct, even though my gross winnings in the mOSS Events was $1028.00.  A few things:

  1. Discipline, Discipline, Discipline:  This bottom line amount would have been significantly less had I applied said discipline to the many times I re-entered tournaments, especially the big event 100k GTD, where I re-entered FIVE times…Now I know better, like seriously know better, but each time I busted was on very solid hands going into it with the best of it. And while that is no excuse for the lack of discipline bankroll management that was required to make this entire thing a hit, it is what it is.  I’m not going to get upset over it, I’m going to take t his as a big lesson of what NOT to do going on into the future. Not to make this entirely all bad, I did have some successful cashes during the mOSS Event – Event #79 I took 3rd for $660.00, again which was negated due to the big event meltdown…Anyhow! Moving on…
  2. Distractions, Distractions, Distractions: This was a big one for me and affected my game horrendously throughout the mOSS Event. While it’s ok to multi-task and what have you while you grind, during these specific events, I shouldn’t have been all over the place, doing what I was doing. But the biggest distraction of all came from my roommates. Without going into the humdrum of details, yeah…moving on.
  3. Bankroll management: This is really a component of the first two points, and we all know the drill regarding it, so I won’t spend too much time on it, other than I will fix this immediately going forth. I do very well in my daily tournaments on BCP, and rarely do I spew bankroll management wise, so this point will apply to whatever the next big event is on BCP.

On a different note, I am going to compile a list of tagged hands from my poker tracker 4 and make them into a video. I’ll post it to my YouTube channel found under the “Hands of the week” section of my blog. If you’re reading this and would like to give your .02, please do! Feel free to leave feedback on any of the various hand in the video once it’s uploaded. I know I still have leaks, and that’s where the community can help.

Hearing different perspectives from fellow poker players and taking that information and growing can only be a good thing! 🙂 That’s all for now.

Overall, not too bad, but I’m always looking to improve. I plan on not playing MTTs  from tonight on until Friday though as I want to make sure all my school work is done and turned in so that I can focus on poker 100% for this event. I will be going over my Poker Tracker 4 database to search for leaks in my game and see if I can fix them.

Anyhow…that’s it for now!

Good Luck at the tables!!!

It seemed like it was only a matter of time, I kept placing third or close to the final table in the nightly re-buys that I play on Black Chip Poker (great site for U.S. players BTW  Tonight in the $3500 Guarantee Re-buy I binked first place for a solid $1330.86.  What makes this even more awesome is that I only invested $12.60 and it wasn’t just run good, as I lost half my stack several times but focused on making as many optimal plays as possible and thanks to this gent: and his facebook page: a few of his thought processes gave me that “aha!” moment during the mid to late stage of the tournament. I knew I was missing some serious components to my mid to late stages of tournaments because I could always build up a nice stack in the early stages and by the time we were in the money my stack would start to dwindle.

Thanks to Aces, I was able to find better spots to be aggressive to build a final table stack. I went into the final table as the chip leader and was able to close the deal. I feel great, this only motivates me more to learn more and work on my game harder. I need to really learn Poker Tracker 4 so that I can review my hand histories, upload tournament finishes, etc.  But I’m tired, and its SUPER BOWL Sunday! So I’m going to get some rest for now. Later I may upload some of the interesting hands from the tournament and if I look like a donk in them oh well!

This is a learning process right?! 😛

We BINK first place wee!!

Good luck at the tables!!!

Good Luck at the tables!

Ok…gonna blow up da building…

I received most the parts for my new PC, except the case arrived damaged (meh…way to go UPS!) So I have to return it to be replaced…School starts in a week and it’s time to set up a routine for myself. It’s funny, when I was younger I hate routine. In some sense I still do, but for the most part I like a certain amount of routine to my life because it keeps me organized – structured even. So with this new year, spring semester, poker, life, my days will consist mostly of: sleep, school, homework, workouts, poker, poker homework, sleep – rinse & repeat. I hope that I can be consistent lol.

My friend Lisa on Facebook informed me of a stake looking for players (horses) for the super series coming up on Black Chip Poker and a few other skins.

I applied but I doubt I’ll get chosen, and that’s ok. I think it’s wise to branch out, to network and get involved in such poker relations with good people like the guy who’s hosting this stake. I know I stated my goals when I revived my blog but they are not conclusive! I am definitely looking to make new friends, new deals and branch out in the game.  Anyhow, I cannot wait to get this PC together so I can get started because I’m itching to get things accomplished!!!

Take care everyone and good luck at the tables!
